Abstract
Discussions on mathematics and the arts often emphasize principles such as symmetry and perfection in patterns. In
this note we aim to complement and extend the scope of mathematical explorations of aesthetics by zeroing in on
wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic centered on three ideas: “nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect”.
