Abstract
Koloman Moser’s 1899 design Forellenreigen (Trout dance) may be the first published example of a tiling by
animal shapes. In 1901, he published 29 periodic designs in Flächenschmuck (Surface Ornamentation). Here we
analyze the wallpaper symmetries of these designs, noting in particular several instances of ambiguity.
