Proofs play a major role in the everyday life of any mathematician. undoubtedly, since the time of the ancient Greeks mathematics deals to a large extent with proofs. however, the question for the functioning and the function of mathematical proofs remains open. working mathematicians agree, that a proof proves but do not ask, how this really works. the talk will discuss various non-formal aspects of mathematical proof - mostly regarding a proof as a special type of communication. thereby we also refer to the classical controversy in the philosophy of mathematics wich tried to decide whether proof is either synthetic of analytic.
